The lecture series “DESIGN is ONE” takes its title from the motto coined by Massimo Vignelli, which affirms that all forms of design are fundamentally interconnected and guided by shared principles. Today, this idea is amplified by technology, which enables designers to move seamlessly across disciplines that were once considered separate. Advanced modeling software, digital fabrication, computational workflows, and global communication platforms have created new opportunities for multidisciplinary practices. Architects can now design products, graphics, interactive systems, and material experiments within the same conceptual and technical ecosystem, reinforcing the idea that design operates as a unified field shaped by clarity, structure, and innovation.

该系列讲座汇集了四位具有建筑学背景、如今在广阔设计领域工作的演讲者:Jenny Wu(洛杉矶南加州建筑学院讲师)、Deborah Schneiderman(纽约普瑞特艺术学院讲师)、Nikita Troufanov(曼谷朱拉隆功大学 Cuinda 讲师)以及 Virginia San Fratello(圣何塞州立大学系主任兼教授)。

The series brings together four lecturers trained as architects who now work expansively across design fields: Jenny Wu (Faculty at SCI-Arc, Los Angeles), Deborah Schneiderman (Faculty at Pratt, New York), Nikita Troufanov (Faculty at Cuinda, Bangkok), and Virginia San Fratello (Chair and Professor at San José State University). Their diverse trajectories—from computational design and sustainability-driven product innovation to digital fabrication and 3D-printed architecture—demonstrate how contemporary technology enables fluid movement between scales, materials, and media. Together, their lectures embody the spirit of “DESIGN is ONE,” showing how architectural training, combined with emerging technologies, fosters practices that are inherently interdisciplinary, experimental, and forward-looking.
